New canon telephoto zoom has built in extender?? You gotta see this

A canon telephoto zoom lens that goes further, and we mean further.

So you've got your fancy zoom lens trained on an unsuspecting target, but all of a sudden the target walks further away and your fancy zoom lens is no longer, well quite so fancy.

If only you had that extra zoom range. Just a bit, honest that's all your asking for.

Sure you could take off your lens and attach a teleconverter to give added zoom power but by that time, your subject, let's call it I don't know... let's say it's a yeti... By that time your yeti has wondered out of sight or doubled back and eaten you.

What you need my friends is the new uber fancy Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L with USM extender 1.4x.

Why? Because its zoom range is as long as its name.

This little (or big, baby) has a teleconverter built right in to it.

Basically it means you can convert the lens to a range of 280-560mm without having to take it off an muck around whilst fighting off an angry Yeti who is offended you've tried to shoot him with anything less than a Nikon (am I showing my bias here?)

Seriously this is an awesome lens. Great for sports shooters, wildlife shooters and well any shooters who want to get close to something without that something necessarily catching on. It is part of Canon's renowned L series line up so you can be sure it's great quality.

And I have to confess I do like that all white Canon lens look. It is quite snappy, albeit as my Mum would say, not good if you want to climb trees with it.

(She's a clean freak).

The lens is being released this year. So if you're an early adopter...(you know who you are)...you might want to check it out.

And if you need some practice, Jessie the Wonder Dog does an awesome Yeti impersonation.

So what do you think of this lens? Is it all too much in one piece? Or has Canon skipped ahead with a daring piece of innovation. You can comment here, or head over to the forums to really thrash it out.
